I was named for a Baptist preacher, George Truitt, and raised as a Methodist and now am a Catholic Deacon. My father was a farmer in Silver City, MS. I have 3 older sisters and yes, I was spoiled. I graduated from Miss State University and received my law degree from Mississippi College Law School. Currently, I am Associate General Counsel for Southern Miss. I plan on retiring July, 2019.
I married Deles Royal from Greenville, MS. She is a cradle Catholic, and after our third son was born, I converted to Catholicism. (Thank you, Fr. Sean Atkinson.) I was always very active in the Catholic Church even before I became Catholic. I taught CCD, took teenagers to Saltillo, Mexico, sang in the church choir, and was a member of the Parish Council. Deles and I have 4 children (our fourth was a girl, Deles got her daughter) and 7 perfect grandchildren.
While living in the Mississippi Delta, I was an avid duck hunter and enjoyed dove hunting and playing tennis with my boys. My passion is tennis. For several summers Deles and I organized and put on a youth tennis tournament that raised money for St. Jude’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. I still play tennis several times a week, only I don’t win like I did 30 years ago.
I would like to thank my parents for giving me my faith foundation, Deles, my mother and father-in-law for their support and encouragement and especially Fr. Tommy Conway. If it was not for Fr. Tommy, I would never have begun this life changing and wonderful journey as a permanent deacon. May God Bless my St Fabian family.
